Valentine’s Outfits + Date Ideas

Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s day with your girlfriends, or thinking of things to do with your SO next week, I’ve got you covered! Below I’ve curated a few of my favorite outfits along with ideas I’m mulling over for this upcoming holiday ❤ ❤ ❤

At Home

This will probably be the most likely setting for our Valentine’s Day celebration (if you like low-key homebody activities 😉 ). Also, I am obsessed with this adorable little lounge set from AKG. First of all, it is locally made/designed, and the fabric is comfortable and so breathable! I’m not much of a lace lingerie girl, so for this occasion I wanted to find something modest, comfortable, and still feminine (and I can continue wearing this for the months to come!). Take a peek below for some date ideas, as well as links to what I’m wearing.

Home Date:

1.  Valentine’s Picnic Basket from Scanway (available February 10 – 19, 2017)

Who doesn’t love to have a romantic indoor picnic in their warm and cozy living room? You can choose between a number of options, plus they really got me when I read tenderloin, truffle, chocolate, and florentines. Pair it with your favorite bottle of wine, and you’ll be good to go. Yum.

2. Spa Night

Pamper yourselves by grabbing your favorite bath products, scented candles etc. and prepare to have a relaxing night in. See some of my favorite products below:

Blackberry Bath Bomb – Lush

Soft Coeur Massage Bar – Lush

Fresh Fig Honey Bath – Laura Mercier

Cocoa Butter Body Butter – The Body Shop

Tantra Massage Oil – Saje

3. Weekend Getaway at Atlantica Oak Island

Bring your pjs for the weekend and prepare for an ultimately relaxing getaway. Have breakfast in bed, take cooking lessons, go wine tasting, and do yoga together.

What I’m Wearing:

Chloe Bralette – AKG

Kate Brief  – AKG

*find them in-store at Makenew on 2468 Agricola St.

Casual

Okay, this blouse totally caught my eye when I first saw it – it carries the embroidery trend feel but uses velvet flowers instead! I paired it with a denim bottom to dress it down, but added a fun sandal heel (don’t you LOVE the faux fur?! I couldn’t help myself when I saw these babies online 😉 ). Obviously if you are doing an outdoor activity, I would recommend changing up the footwear to match the weather, but these were too fun to not share! Take a peek below for some date ideas, as well as links to what I’m wearing.

Casual Date:

1. Valentine’s Food Crawl

What is more fun than reminiscing with your sweetheart while chowing down on a Valentine’s themed food crawl? There are at least 20 stops, and under $10 at each location ❤

2. The Coast’s Valentine’s Doughball

A one hour dessert & wine tasting session from 11 local vendors – need I say more?

3. Curling Tournament of Broken Hearts – Good Robot

If you’re looking for something more active with a quirky theme, grab your friends (or another couple) and get your curl on!

What I’m Wearing:

Devore Plunge Swing Top – TOPSHOP

Helena Straight Leg Jean – GRLFRND

Vamp Faux Fur Sandal – Zara (find similar ones here and here)

Dressy

dsc_1902dsc_1908dsc_1910dsc_1888dsc_1900

Here I wanted to share my take on “dressier” outfits without wearing a dress or skirt (while we’re still braving the cold winter, I’d much rather stick to pants 🙂 ). I love the play on feminine details with the wider sleeves, peek of skin, and softer tones, plus these are two outfits you can also bring into the Spring season! Take a peek below for some date ideas, as well as links to what I’m wearing.

Dressy Date:

1. Decadence – Savour Food & Wine Festival

Start your Valentine’s weekend off indulging at the Decadence event as part of the Savour Food & Wine Festival. I mean you really can’t go wrong when there’s cheese, chocolate, AND wine pairings involved.

2. Feeling the Love Dinner & Dance

A Valentine’s soiree for couples, singles, and friends – think funk, jazz, and cocktails!

What I’m Wearing:

Edie Flute Sleeve Top – TOPSHOP

Domme Pant – Club Monaco

Ivette Sandal – Jimmy Choo

Brax Jimpsuit – Wilfred

Mod Tapestry Pouch – Wilfred

Summer Lookbook Series Part 1

Culottes & Lace Up Sandals

I’ve been obsessed with the wide-leg & all-white trend this summer – the culottes add effortlessness and an airiness to my outfit while the white crochet cropped sweater adds a different texture. I am in love with this look because it can be taken from day to night so easily with a change of the top or the accessories. On a side note, these Schutz sandals are everything (I ordered mine from Free People here)! They have been one of my staples for summer as they match just about every outfit – I cannot wait to visit the Schutz store in New York during my October visit ❤

What I’m Wearing: Watch – TheHorseAU // Erlina Lace up Sandal – Schutz (or here) // Clutch – 9September on Etsy // Knitted Top – Topshop // Lazarus Culotte – Babaton at Aritzia (find similar ones here)

Silk Dresses & Slip Ons

Dresses are a must-have during the summertime, especially when you’re on the go and you don’t have time to comb through your closet to try on different outfit options! I love a silk dress for the breathability during humid days, and the print adds a touch of color to my otherwise all white ensemble (again ;)!). The beauty of this dress is it’s versatility as I took it from work to a summer wedding just last weekend. For your day look, pair a feminine but loose fitted dress with a slide sandal for a more relaxed feel, and an element of streetstyle.

What I’m Wearing: Watch – TheHorseAU // Somerly Slide – Michael by Michael Kors (similar ones here or here) // Millau Dress – Wilfred at Aritzia (similar print here) // Veronika Dress – Wilfred Free at Aritzia

Denim & Fringe

Denim is a great way for me to add some color to my otherwise neutral wardrobe (not that I mind having all neutrals :)). I was so obsessed with a denim shift dress I had bought earlier this summer, I went in and bought another version! It’s a great way to incorporate the fabric other than  as a jacket or as a jean bottom – and it’s comfortable too! I paired this look with a drapey trench, and my sneakers for that off-duty look. You could also easily change the shoes for something more classic like a bootie, flat, or summer sandal as well. The bag has also been my go-to lately; I find it adds a textural element with all my outfits, plus I don’t usually change my bags too often during different seasons.

What I’m Wearing: Watch – TheHorseAU // Hammer Run – Supra // Abbey Fringe Crossbody – Wilfred Free at Aritzia // Vivienne Denim Dress – Wilfred Free at Aritzia // Lawson Trench – Babaton at Aritzia

Look out for pt. 2 of my summer series!

Ellen Loves

Items I am currently coveting for Spring:

1. BCBG Branch Ear Cuff  $18.00

2. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush – Soft Plum (can be found at Sephora) $51.00

3. Butter London Lacquer – Yummy Mummy  $18.00

4. TopShop Plunging V Cross Back Bodycon Dress $63.20 (£38)

5. Schutz Erlene Heel (can be found at Revolve Clothing) $244.82

6. BCBG Zipper Peplum Belt $58.00

7. Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Lipstick – La Sensuelle $35.00

8. Nasty Gal Look See Clutch $38.00

These items go perfectly together combined and separated as well! I absolutely love how versatile everything is in my current ‘Ellen Loves’ because you can dress up and dress down every single item. As you can see, I’m a sucker for the classic black and white, which lays a great foundation, but as Spring and Summer are coming, it’s time to experiment with a bit more color!

#Valentine’sDay

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day! Whether you’re celebrating this holiday or not, it’s a great excuse to whip out the chocolate and gorge on sweet delicious foods you would otherwise never include in your pantry. The hubby and I actually celebrated this past Tuesday with a delicious 3 course meal at a local steak and seafood house (Ryan & Duffy’s). Really, it was our excuse to have a cheat meal in the middle of the week when we usually have it on Saturdays!

Anyway, I actually love dressing men. I find that although everyday men’s fashion may not have as much selection as women’s (ie. strapless, crop tops, etc.)  there is a lot of detail that goes into a man’s outfit. The fact that Matt loves shopping as much as I do, is a HUGE bonus for me! I don’t think I could date a guy who didn’t like fashion (or at least didn’t appreciate it!).  And since it’s Valentine’s Day, J and I decided it was time for a couples outfit post. It took us some time to adjust to having a third person in the mix, but it was a good learning experience, and helpful for more pairings to come!

Snakeskin Penny Loafers – Kate and Mel at Townshoes

Ponchos & Embellishments

Although I’m a gal that loves my luxe fabrics and more expensive brands, it is always essential for me to also buy affordable pieces especially when I’m on a budget! I’ve had this open poncho sweater for a while now and I absolutely love the design and color of it (it can be paired with so many things in my closet!), plus it adds a different take on the drapey sweater look. I got the dress for $15 at top shop on sale (what a steal!); credits to my mum who spotted it out of the millions of racks during Christmas last year ❤

I think it’s a skillful art when someone can pair inexpensive pieces together to make a tasteful outfit. One doesn’t necessarily need every single part of their outfit to be high end to look good; they just need to attend to all the minor details like accessorizing with jewelry, shoes, bags, scarves, hats etc.

What I’m Wearing:

Jeweled Adjustable Bangle – Banana Republic

Brown Faux Leather Clasp Bracelet – Banana Republic

Embellished Dress- Top Shop

Poncho Sweater – H&M

Beaded Ring – Pandora

Winter Is Coming

J and I took a walk around my neighborhood near downtown Halifax and you can definitely feel the chill in the air. It’s getting quite cold for photos but we find they turn out the best in natural light! On another note with the freezing weather approaching, gives me more reason to steal my boyfriend’s sweaters and jackets!

I love to browse around the men’s section of stores like JCrew, TopShop, Club Monaco, Zara, because they sometimes have a better selection of sweaters and shirts with a looser fit (and sometimes better price!). It adds a nice touch to layering for the wintertime, plus I can swap clothes with the boyfriend when I get bored of the items 😛

What I’m wearing:

Cable Knit Cardigan – Top Shop (Men’s)

Colorblocked Pant – Wilfred at Wilfred Stores and Aritzia Stores

Sheer Back Tank – H&M

Leather and Crepe Jacket (under the cardigan) – Mustard Seed at Mendocino Stores

Brown Suede Bootie – Kate and Mel at Town Shoes

Wool Knot Headband – Forever21
