Florals

Now that I have a closet full of basics, I’ve recently been investing in more printed pieces in the last year or so. This summer, I’m loving the floral print (see my favorite summer blouse below!), and pops of color! Also, can you believe that it’s finally nice out? I mean minus this weekend because it’s supposed to rain, but I’m so glad I can now hit the beach, and have dinner & drinks on a patio! I also just found out I’m going on a last minute trip to Barcelona in 2 weeks, so keep an eye out on my IG for my adventures there!

I hope you all have a fantastic Canada Day Weekend celebrating #Canada150

Summer With JORD + Giveaway

2

I don’t think I’ve ever gone a day in the year without wearing a watch – in my opinion, it is an essential fashion accessory with the added functionality as well. So when I discovered JORD, it was a great addition to my wardrobe as I’ve never owned a wooden watch before!

3

I am all for neutrals and very minimal/clean looks, so naturally, I gravitated towards the Frankie in Koa & Ash – I loved the more masculine fit and the darker face adds a uniqueness to the look (you can also shop different looks and sizes here). I paired it with an all-white ensemble (with minor details) for a casual Summer weekender look. To transition this look into the upcoming Fall season, you can easily pair your outfit with a staple leather jacket or trendy bomber (like I’ve done above). Needless to say, I will be taking this watch with me into the upcoming Fall and Winter seasons!

More excitingly, JORD and I have partnered together to offer you a giveaway for a $75 e-gift card to put towards your favorite watch! To enter the contest click here, and everyone who enters gets $20 for just entering! The giveaway ends Sunday August 14th, so the winner will be contacted that day! Good luck everybody! 🙂

xo!

Spring – Summer Transitioning

In this post I wanted to show you guys a few of my latest work/weekender outfits, and pieces that have been on rotation in my closet! I find the Halifax weather is ever-changing; it can be hot and humid one day, and then cool and foggy the next – which is why I love having versatile pieces in my wardrobe to make that easy transition.

With this look and below, I’ll be sharing my top picks for items to invest in for the upcoming seasons:

Shirt Dresses & Tan Suede Booties

unnamed (9)

I picked up this easy throw-on denim shirtdress from Top Shop, and I love it because of the slight asymmetrical patchwork detail (which makes it a little more unique than the other shirt dresses I currently own). The great thing about this button up is that it can easily transition from Spring to Fall, by wearing it as a dress, a shirt over a skinny jean, or wearing it open as a layering piece over your outfit. The tan cut out booties I adore! They were a steal from Zara, and a good shoe option to have in my collection 🙂

What I’m Wearing: Patchwork Denim Dress – Top Shop (find similar ones here, here, and here) / Suede Cut-Out Booties – Zara (find similar ones here, here, and here)/ Lovesome Sunglasses – Gentle Monster

Staple Leather Jacket

DSC_1410

You’ve probably heard this time and time again (and it’s 100% true) – a leather jacket can never go out of style. It’s a great hybrid fall/spring jacket alternative that will add that extra oomph to your outfit! Plus with all the different color options, suede vs. leather, patchwork, moto, collarless etc. options, you really have no excuses but to invest in a quality product.

What I’m Wearing: Karan Jacket – Mackage / Arlenis Blouse – Wilfred Free at Aritzia / Jude Skirt – Babaton at Aritzia / Erlina Sandal – Schutz

Lightweight Denim & Summer Knits

unnamed (2)unnamed (7)

If you haven’t noticed in the last few outfits, a trend I’ve been loving during the Spring (and into Summer) is lightweight denim. It’s cut and the fabric composition is more similar to look and feel like cotton and/or linen – which is a huge plus for me for the breathability and lightness of the fabric. There are SO many great options to choose from when it comes to anything that’s denim or similar, and easy to layer on for Fall.

Check out some of my affordable online favorites below:

On another note, I also LOVE summer knits – it adds texture and an element of softness to an outfit. Plus who doesn’t like to wear sweaters all year round?

What I’m Wearing: Sage Short – Wilfred Free at Aritzia / Montero Jacket – Wilfred Free at Aritzia / Belfort Sweater – Wilfred at Aritzia (similar one here, here, and here)

Culottes & Summer Knits Cont’

Summer knits are perfect as they come in so many different textures and silhouettes (can be slinky and mold to your body shape, or they can be boxy yet soft at the same time). Here and above you’ll see two different sweater cuts that are both just as playful and fun! Test your fabrics this summer by mixing and matching until you get the combination that works best for you – for me, I love mixing in suede (or vegan suede) like with the culotte below (another find from Zara). While your at it, also try to mix your shapes and volume – for example: small top with a voluminous bottom and vice versa.

What I’m Wearing: Vegan Suede Culotte – Zara (similar one here or here), Cayenne Knit Top – Wilfred at Aritzia

THE COAST – Spring Fashion Issue

IMG_4025

In case you missed it, a few weeks ago I had a fantastic opportunity to shoot for the Spring Fashion Issue for The Coast. It was so much fun and I got to share some of my fashion philosophies and favorite trends for this season (I’ll share more below!).

You can access the digital copy issue (through PressReader) here.

The Coast is a locally owned and free newspaper that covers anything and everything Halifax, from fashion to culture and events, food, current news and more! The cover was shot by Meghan T. Whitton and makeup by Emily A. Moore – you can see more of their work on contact info via the links at the bottom of this post!

During the interview, I was able to reflect on how Lovebyelle started, and speak to working within the fashion industry in a number of roles. I also spoke about a few of my current favorite designers: AKG, Maggie MacCormick, and Sarah Sears (and I am wearing pieces from all three favorites in the photos). Here are snippets from the article below:

Her Fashion Philosophy – “Don’t be afraid to try styles that you would never think of. It’s the things you’d never think of pairing together that look the best,” says Yeung, who says that though she’s had a lifelong interest in fashion, she never pictured making a career of it. “I always say, do what you like. Your style is an expression of your personality. If I want to wear white in winter I will. I don’t go by fashion rules, I do what I want.”

Her Favorite Springs Trends – “Right now, I’m all about curating my outfits with a peek of neutral suede piece – ’70s inspired suede is back in with the A-line skirts, cropped jackets and fun boxy dresses.” says Yeung of what she’ll be pulling from her closet this season. A forever fan of monochromatic dressing, she’s also digging lightweight denim, whether it’s wide-leg pants, a pencil skirt or a kimono jacket. And for a touch of romance – the exposed shoulder top. “Try my favourite style – the off-the shoulder blouse, paired with an airy culotte.”

What I’m Wearing: The Artist Dress – AKG // The Pencil Crop – Maggie MacCormick // Criss Cross Ring, Loop Bangles, Piya Choker, Finger Tipper Ring – Sarah Sears

Summer Lookbook Series Part 2

Denim Skirts & Baseball Caps

So this has basically been my summer uniform the last few months. I love how casual, yet put together this look is (plus who doesn’t love wearing comfortable sneakers every day?). This skirt has been one of my favorite summer pieces and will definitely be transitioning into my fall wardrobe!

What I’m Wearing: Hammer Run – Supra // HW Pencil Skirt – The Castings // Dauphine Tank – Wilfred // Decker Cap – Wilfred Free (similar one here)

Pleated Skirts & Sleeveless Sweaters

Who says you can’t wear a sweater in the hot weather? I think it’s all about finding the right styles with the right fabrics. Pairing two longer pieces together can sometimes make someone look ‘blocked’ or shorter, so look for details that can balance that out such as a side slit or contrasting pleated textile (like I have above).

What I’m Wearing: Somerly Slide – Michael by Michael Kors (similar ones here or here) // Watch – TheHorseAU // Jude Skirt – Babaton // Palmier Sweater – Wilfred

Asymmetrical Skirts & Summer Loafers

I keep going back to the black & white, and I can’t help myself; they are such classic shades that go with just about anything and everything! Here, I am sporting my current favorite watch from Larsson & Jennings to tie the whole B&W theme together with a small hint of gold. This is a great look that pairs classic ‘business’ styles with a slight twist – I love the cut of the skirt because it adds that extra detail, and the sweater crop adds texture.

What I’m Wearing: Jax Skirt – Babaton // Alrik Knit Top – Babaton // Lapera Loafer – Shellys London // Lader Watch – Larsson & Jennings // Animalier Sunglasses- Dolce & Gabbana

Minimalist Dresses

Along with my silk dress from my previous post, here is another style that’s been on rotation this summer. This was an easy go-to with it’s simplicity and slit detail (I clearly love slits ;)!) paired with a fun accessory and interesting leather sandal. Again, it’s all about tying the whole look together with accessorizing and the grooming, plus it’s another great transitional piece for fall layering!

What I’m Wearing: Auxiliary – Reese Cross Body // Jessie Dress – Babaton // Chatham Sandal – Jeffrey Campbell // Lader Watch – Larsson & Jennings

Summer Lookbook Series Part 1

Culottes & Lace Up Sandals

I’ve been obsessed with the wide-leg & all-white trend this summer – the culottes add effortlessness and an airiness to my outfit while the white crochet cropped sweater adds a different texture. I am in love with this look because it can be taken from day to night so easily with a change of the top or the accessories. On a side note, these Schutz sandals are everything (I ordered mine from Free People here)! They have been one of my staples for summer as they match just about every outfit – I cannot wait to visit the Schutz store in New York during my October visit ❤

What I’m Wearing: Watch – TheHorseAU // Erlina Lace up Sandal – Schutz (or here) // Clutch – 9September on Etsy // Knitted Top – Topshop // Lazarus Culotte – Babaton at Aritzia (find similar ones here)

Silk Dresses & Slip Ons

Dresses are a must-have during the summertime, especially when you’re on the go and you don’t have time to comb through your closet to try on different outfit options! I love a silk dress for the breathability during humid days, and the print adds a touch of color to my otherwise all white ensemble (again ;)!). The beauty of this dress is it’s versatility as I took it from work to a summer wedding just last weekend. For your day look, pair a feminine but loose fitted dress with a slide sandal for a more relaxed feel, and an element of streetstyle.

What I’m Wearing: Watch – TheHorseAU // Somerly Slide – Michael by Michael Kors (similar ones here or here) // Millau Dress – Wilfred at Aritzia (similar print here) // Veronika Dress – Wilfred Free at Aritzia

Denim & Fringe

Denim is a great way for me to add some color to my otherwise neutral wardrobe (not that I mind having all neutrals :)). I was so obsessed with a denim shift dress I had bought earlier this summer, I went in and bought another version! It’s a great way to incorporate the fabric other than  as a jacket or as a jean bottom – and it’s comfortable too! I paired this look with a drapey trench, and my sneakers for that off-duty look. You could also easily change the shoes for something more classic like a bootie, flat, or summer sandal as well. The bag has also been my go-to lately; I find it adds a textural element with all my outfits, plus I don’t usually change my bags too often during different seasons.

What I’m Wearing: Watch – TheHorseAU // Hammer Run – Supra // Abbey Fringe Crossbody – Wilfred Free at Aritzia // Vivienne Denim Dress – Wilfred Free at Aritzia // Lawson Trench – Babaton at Aritzia

Look out for pt. 2 of my summer series!

Summer Weddings

I actively kept my eye out for a perfect summer wedding (guest) dress for months, and had no luck until I came across this little number last minute! I previously purchased many fitted dresses for weddings, but I wanted something different and more fun this time around. I adore the Narella Silk Dress I got on sale from Club Monaco (shop the Fall version here) because of it’s gorgeous scalloped trims and detailed pleats! Plus I was 100% sold on the hidden pockets! It’s nice to have such a versatile shift dress in my closet that I can dress up for special events like weddings, and dress down for regular weekends.

What I’m Wearing: Narella Silk Dress – Club Monaco // White Envelope Clutch – BCBG MaxAzria // Petite Camille Watch and Gold Arrow Necklace – Michael by Michael Kors

Summer Escape

This photo shoot has been by far, one of my favorites! For the upcoming summer weddings and engagement shoots, hopefully this post can give you some ideas!

If you’re a DIY gal like me, there are a ton of ways to make your shoots/weddings/parties more cost effective (plus it can be fun if you do a small get together for a little arts and crafts session!). I love the idea of having balloons and pretty tassels (so cute!) because they can add a fun whimsical feel to your event or shoot. I bought my own materials (tissue paper, string) from the dollar store and used this video for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WFPQ2F2_2E. You can find 16 inch balloons at a local party store or 36 inch balloons at some select stores (or online). And you won’t need to fill it up days before your event, just do it the morning of and you’re good to go! Instead of paying $30-60 for pre-made 36″ balloons with tassels attached, why not make your own for $10?

Anyway I’ve had this beautiful dress in my closet from Lulu’s  for over a year now, and never got a chance to wear it, so I’m happy I finally got to bring it out! I think it’s a perfect maxi for low key beach weddings and engagement shoots because of the romantic back and lace detail in the front. It’s such a simple silhouette, yet so stunning and flattering when you put it on!

Also if you didn’t notice, I am wearing this gorgeous head piece made by Nicole at Oh Dina! Millinery, and you can see that I’m a huge fan of her floral crowns via my instagram account! I had the pleasure of meeting Nicole a couple months ago, and since then I’ve been obsessing over her work! If you haven’t checked her out yet, I linked her website and etsy shop below. She also makes custom pieces geared for your special event, and I will definitely be sending in my requests for my future engagement shoot ❤
