Spring Transitioning

I swear I remember it being a lot warmer this time last year (but I may be wrong!). Anyway, it may still be cold outside, but I am in full Spring transitioning mode 🙂 This year I really noticed I’ve been playing with a lot more print and color than I am used to, and I kind of love it! However, I do think it’s important to invest in your foundational pieces (aka. your classic basics) before layering on seasonal interest pieces!

Basics for your Spring wardrobe:

  • a light, drapey spring jacket
  • cropped denim
  • a shirt dress – that can be worn as a shirt, dress, or over piece
  • a light and long skirt of some sort (pleated, wrap, structured etc.)
  • a neutral toned mule or slide

Trendy add-ons for your Spring wardrobe:

  • an off-the-shoulder blouse
  • an elegant silky matching set – “pajama dressing” is the new look (also the comfiest)
  • a sleek bomber
  • cropped wide-legged denim or a jean with a high-low hem
  • a embroidered piece (ie. jacket, blouse, t-shirt, jean, loafer, bootie etc.)

Also on another note, I have been SO exhausted lately… I mean I like to keep busy most of the time, but I’m feeling like I may need a “me” day soon. I was also thinking how fast time has gone by in the last year – I mean, we got married almost 8 months ago!! Now we get to head on our delayed honeymoon to the Amalfi Coast in less than a month and a half ❤

Tropical Paradise with NxN Photography

I first met Luke and Alexa when we were shooting for Aritzia’s #NowhereEverywhere Campaign in conjunction with the grand opening of the #AritziaHalifax location (see post here and here). We immediately bonded with our similar aesthetic and appreciation for fashion and beautiful photos.

If you haven’t heard yet, they just launched North By North Photography, offering photography services from portraits and events, to editorial work and social media content. They are also open to a working with you on any creative ideas you may have so if you think of something, drop them a line!

Whenever Alexa and Luke contact me to do some collaborative work, I always jump at the opportunity. Working with them is always so easy and fluid, and they take every measure to make sure you are comfortable in the environment that you are working in. When Alexa told me the shoot was going to take place at the Public Garden Greenhouses, suede was what came to mind! I thought of pairing the greenery and natural lighting with a mixture of warm tans/camels, with the suede adding on that textural element! These pieces really speak true to my minimal style with small key details – and are great staples to bring into the Fall and Spring seasons. I am absolutely in love with the result of our shoot (as usual) and the talent and passion that these two have! They will quite literally climb trees to get the perfect shot!  It was a pleasure working with Luke and Alexa – and don’t forget to visit their page featuring this exact collaboration.

I am so excited to be a part of Aritzia’s Nowhere Everywhere campaign – it holds a special place in my heart for many different reasons.

Having only moved to Halifax less than two years ago, I am always exploring the city – one bite.. one drink.. one scene at a time. Even with the amount of stunning places I’ve been to around the world, I find that there is a certain beauty and calmness about living in the East Coast that you cannot find anywhere else. Last week, I spent the afternoon wandering around the city with the gorgeous Kayla of Short Presents, wearing some of our favorite pieces from the Spring/Summer collection. I love the effortlessness and versatility of the dress – how I can easily go from browsing a local farmer’s market to attending an evening event with the right accessorizing. Here I’ve paired the look with some fun fringe, and a sleek tailored coat – as you know, I love playing with the hard & soft/structured & fluid.

If you are living at or visiting Halifax (NS) this week, you should stop by the Halifax Shopping Centre for the grand opening of Aritzia Halifax. Join Kayla and I for a night of shopping and cocktails featuring a performance by Wintersleep from 7 – 9 pm, Thursday, June 4th.

Check out Aritzia’s instagram feed for some seriously beautiful outfit inspiration, and stay tuned to see our favorite places around the city. Don’t forget to tag your stylish adventures with #NowhereEverywhere for a chance to win a $2,500 shopping spree.

Where will your clothes take you this summer?

Off Duty // Envy Clothing Company Discount Below

So work has been super busy since November, and I’ve really missed the blog. I’ve made a (super late) new years resolution though to keep it up more consistently, and besides, it really keeps the creative juices flowing! Anyway, I’ve been really going back to the basics lately – even on all my recent purchases, and I’ve realized that you really can’t have too many basic foundational pieces in your wardrobe.

Especially during the winter here in Halifax or back home in Toronto, you really need to layer up to keep warm while trying to not compromise your style at the same time (so here’s one of my current favorite layered outfits 🙂 ). Surprisingly, I was not feeling as cold as I thought I would be without my coat on when it’s a usually an ordeal to stay still while shooting in this kind of weather! A big thank you to Envy Clothing Company for sending me this lovely layering statement necklace –  I love how they’ve really gotten to know my style, and this is the perfect addition to my collection of jewelry & accessories! Also, if you show this or my instagram post when you’re shopping at any Envy Clothing Company location, you will receive 10% off any regular priced accessories (not only limited to jewelry). Super exciting!

As I’ve said in previous blog posts, a jewelry/accessories are essential in curating the perfect outfit. This double layered necklace adds that finishing touch of gold to my cream/white/black outfit story.

What I’m Wearing: Gold Doubled Layered Necklace – Envy Clothing Company // White Cropped Sweater – Vero Moda @ Envy Clothing Company // Oak Laurette Slip Dress – Wilfred @ Aritzia // Cream Mayet Jacket – Wilfred @ Aritzia // Jamie Moto Ripped Jean – Top Shop // Black Silvy Bootie – Michael by Michael Kors // Black Harlow Shopper – Michael Kors // Wool Black Fedora – Club Monaco

Fall Love

Because I am wearing pumps at work every day, I try to give my feet a break on my days off (although I cannot resist heeled ankle booties </3). I’m also very particular with my flat footwear, and I find it hard to find the perfect fashion-worthy flats to go with my weekender outfits, but I’m happy to say I am in love with these Loeffler Randall  espadrilles I picked up during the summer! If you haven’t seen already, I mentioned these gorgeous perforated flats in one of my latest posts on my favorite summer shoe trends.

Above, I am holding my current favorite everyday handbag: the Novelty Miranda in Suntan, by Michael Kors. It is probably one of my more expensive handbags, but so worth it (you can shop for more of his collection items here)! And if you haven’t noticed, I’m actually quite a huge fan of crop tops and here, I paired it with an adorable peplum skirt by Wilfred at Aritzia. Although, I don’t tend to actually put on what I tie around my waist, I find it adds that final touch to your outfit; almost like your accessories do. It also has the possibility of being a more functional accessory, as you can actually put it on if it gets chillier during the day.

What I’m Wearing: Espadrille Flat – Loeffler Randall // Peplum Skirt – Wilfred at Aritzia // Chambray Button Up – Mendocino // Grey Crop Top – Brandy Melville // Pleather Cap – Little Burgundy Shoes

From Work Days to Weekends with Hart Republic (Sneak Peek: Pop-Up Shop Summer Tour- Halifax)

I’m the kind of girl who loves to have transitional pieces in my wardrobe, so that I can wear most of my clothing all year round (with a few twists here and there!). As I got older, I found myself focusing more on quality and unique one-of-a-kind pieces, rather than having large amounts of just OK fabrics and trendy cuts. As you can see from above, I transitioned a staple and statement black top from an on-the-go work outfit into a relaxing weekender look (outfit details below). This is why I’m so excited to share with you my latest collaboration with Kaylyn from Hart Republic, who sets out to redefine the shopping experience one pop-up shop at a time!

For those who aren’t familiar with Pop-Up Shops: Pop-up shops create a unique environment for interaction and exclusivity, as companies (like Hart Republic) set up at interesting spaces for a limited time to showcase their online collection and possibly some pop-up in-store exclusives. It makes the shopping event a memorable experience to get together with your girlfriends and shop in a special location (at a wine bar, restaurant location, cafe – for example).

Current brands include: Greylin, Harlyn, Henry & Belle, Line & Dot, and MLV, with looks all hand-picked by Kaylyn on her buying trips throughout the year. I love the idea of a pop-up shop because of the exclusivity where there are only a number of sizes available per outfit, and the experience of being able to wine and shop at the same time! Here, I’m showcasing a couple of pieces that you won’t find on the online store, but they will be available “in-store” at the pop-up in Halifax! She has a number of different exclusive looks for each pop-up shop on her current summer tour, and is looking to expand her tour to the rest of Canada later in the year, so stay tuned!

If you are in the Maritimes, or specifically in Halifax, RSVP here to get your first happy hour drink free! The event is next Wednesday, July 30th, at TEMPO Food & Drink (1875 Barrington St.) from 4-8 pm. Come by to check out exclusives from Hart Republic and shop with me!

Kaylyn, entrepreneur and owner of Hart Republic, recently took a leap of faith and left her career as an environmental engineer to follow her passion and grow her business. A Halifax native, she is setting out to travel the country and share the Hart Republic story by creating unforgettable shopping experiences through pop-ups.

The idea of Hart Republic was born after a few years of working as a professional in the corporate world, where there was little time for shopping. With a slight fashion obsession and a hectic schedule, Kaylyn resorted to filling shopping carts online but was always left unfulfilled by the shopping experience that felt like a routine. Her goal is to turn the routine of shopping into a social event through pop-up shops where you can not only shop the latest coveted style, but also catch up with friends and network with other like-minded women. Hart Republic sets out to provide coveted style to the trendsetters, the trailblazers, and the dreamers; inspiring confidence to challenge the status quo and live a life you love.
