Spring Transitioning

I swear I remember it being a lot warmer this time last year (but I may be wrong!). Anyway, it may still be cold outside, but I am in full Spring transitioning mode 🙂 This year I really noticed I’ve been playing with a lot more print and color than I am used to, and I kind of love it! However, I do think it’s important to invest in your foundational pieces (aka. your classic basics) before layering on seasonal interest pieces!

Basics for your Spring wardrobe:

  • a light, drapey spring jacket
  • cropped denim
  • a shirt dress – that can be worn as a shirt, dress, or over piece
  • a light and long skirt of some sort (pleated, wrap, structured etc.)
  • a neutral toned mule or slide

Trendy add-ons for your Spring wardrobe:

  • an off-the-shoulder blouse
  • an elegant silky matching set – “pajama dressing” is the new look (also the comfiest)
  • a sleek bomber
  • cropped wide-legged denim or a jean with a high-low hem
  • a embroidered piece (ie. jacket, blouse, t-shirt, jean, loafer, bootie etc.)

Also on another note, I have been SO exhausted lately… I mean I like to keep busy most of the time, but I’m feeling like I may need a “me” day soon. I was also thinking how fast time has gone by in the last year – I mean, we got married almost 8 months ago!! Now we get to head on our delayed honeymoon to the Amalfi Coast in less than a month and a half ❤

Spring Pastels

I can’t believe it’s been over a month since my last blog post! Things have been crazy for me with a new work transition and flying back and forth from Toronto to Halifax! I have been loving the runways rocking light pastels and white bottoms for Spring, so I thought I would show you two of my everyday favorites. Here I am wearing one of the most comfortable sleeveless blouses from Aritzia, and it has the back slit which I am a huge fan of! Having a more slender body type, I like to buy clothes that work well with my figure, and I find that the pieces from Aritzia tend to fit me almost 100% of the time. I guess that’s why I frequent it so much! Also, high waist pants (or jeans like above) are a great way to elongate your legs. Although white jeans can get dirty easily, they are essential to your wardrobe, like a little black dress is (in my opinion of course)! It adds a fresh take on those everyday blues and it naturally draws attention to your outfit. And while we’re talking about pieces that may not be as functional but are definitely worth investing in, I added my gorgeous clutch to finish off the outfit from 9September on http://www.etsy.com. I absolutely love the quality of the bag and it came with the option of having a detachable wrist strap and cross-body chain! It’s the perfect little clutch to transition into the summer months!

What I’m Wearing:

Wilfred Pyramides Blouse – Aritzia

White Avedon Ankle – Citizens of Humanity

Large Clear Transparent Clutch – 9September on Etsy

Behaviour Apparel

J and I decided to change up our usual style of shooting to match the edge and vibe of Behaviour Apparel while keeping it very me. I came across Kate W. and her clothing line through instagram one day and loved what she was doing with the brand. Behaviour Apparel hopes to embrace and create positive behaviour through the clothing and the messages that come along with it. They also collaborate with local designers and talent such as Canadian music artist, Jordon Croucher, who has recently contributed to the line including a signature crew neck (as you can tell, I love comfy sweaters and crew necks that I can dress up or down!). Here above I am wearing my favourite crew from the brand in regular and cropped fit, and I am loving how graphic it is! I’ve recently been adding to my collection of tees and graphic sweaters as it is so versatile for my many occasions whether I’m meeting friends, going shopping, or heading to the airport!

Superhuman Crew Neck – $42.00

Superhuman Cropped Crew Neck – $42.00

Gorilla Crop Top – $19.00

Until next time, xo

Winter Wonderland

I have a love-hate relationship with Canadian winters. On one hand, the cold weather allows me to wear things like my fur jackets, Mackage down, furry hats and things, BUT when it gets into the negative, I’m really wishing I moved somewhere warmer like BC or California. I’m not acquainted with the weather in places like Cali, but I don’t know how people wear fur down there (assuming it’s pretty warm year round compared to here). Other than fashion, the cold winters here are great for skiing, snowboarding, and other winter sports. Skiing is something I used to love to do, but I don’t get around to it too much anymore. I went to Whistler, BC last year, and the snow was completely different than what I was used to! Had to re-learn the ropes again, but it was such an adrenaline rush!

I’ve been attempting to get more into the cultural scene of Halifax to see what this city has to offer in terms of fashion, events, and food. It’s a work in progress, but I will update as I go along! I’ve found a couple vintage shops in downtown that I LOVE rummaging through. I found my vintage mink there and I hope to add a couple more to the collection!

Until next time,

Study Date

I tend to work into the evenings some days, but the good thing about my job is its flexibility and I can usually work from home or from a local coffee shop (like so!). I like to try out Halifax’s different local coffee shops to see what fresh grind this city has to offer (although I’m a Starbucks girl at heart). My preferences include the dark roasts with all the bitter aromatic flavors and the occasional latte/tea-latte. ‘J’ and I took refuge at the Uncommon Grounds on a cold weeknight to do some studying which ended up mostly being chatting. I find I study best at cafes even though I like to people watch (not creepy at all?), but the earbuds I use can drown out all the sound.

What I’m Wearing:

Citizens of Humanity Crop Rocket Highrise Skinny

BCBG Max Azria Emerald Necklace

Polka-dotted Denim Button Up from J Crew

Winter Is Coming

J and I took a walk around my neighborhood near downtown Halifax and you can definitely feel the chill in the air. It’s getting quite cold for photos but we find they turn out the best in natural light! On another note with the freezing weather approaching, gives me more reason to steal my boyfriend’s sweaters and jackets!

I love to browse around the men’s section of stores like JCrew, TopShop, Club Monaco, Zara, because they sometimes have a better selection of sweaters and shirts with a looser fit (and sometimes better price!). It adds a nice touch to layering for the wintertime, plus I can swap clothes with the boyfriend when I get bored of the items 😛
