Florals

Now that I have a closet full of basics, I’ve recently been investing in more printed pieces in the last year or so. This summer, I’m loving the floral print (see my favorite summer blouse below!), and pops of color! Also, can you believe that it’s finally nice out? I mean minus this weekend because it’s supposed to rain, but I’m so glad I can now hit the beach, and have dinner & drinks on a patio! I also just found out I’m going on a last minute trip to Barcelona in 2 weeks, so keep an eye out on my IG for my adventures there!

I hope you all have a fantastic Canada Day Weekend celebrating #Canada150

Spring Transitioning

I swear I remember it being a lot warmer this time last year (but I may be wrong!). Anyway, it may still be cold outside, but I am in full Spring transitioning mode 🙂 This year I really noticed I’ve been playing with a lot more print and color than I am used to, and I kind of love it! However, I do think it’s important to invest in your foundational pieces (aka. your classic basics) before layering on seasonal interest pieces!

Basics for your Spring wardrobe:

  • a light, drapey spring jacket
  • cropped denim
  • a shirt dress – that can be worn as a shirt, dress, or over piece
  • a light and long skirt of some sort (pleated, wrap, structured etc.)
  • a neutral toned mule or slide

Trendy add-ons for your Spring wardrobe:

  • an off-the-shoulder blouse
  • an elegant silky matching set – “pajama dressing” is the new look (also the comfiest)
  • a sleek bomber
  • cropped wide-legged denim or a jean with a high-low hem
  • a embroidered piece (ie. jacket, blouse, t-shirt, jean, loafer, bootie etc.)

Also on another note, I have been SO exhausted lately… I mean I like to keep busy most of the time, but I’m feeling like I may need a “me” day soon. I was also thinking how fast time has gone by in the last year – I mean, we got married almost 8 months ago!! Now we get to head on our delayed honeymoon to the Amalfi Coast in less than a month and a half ❤

Valentine’s Outfits + Date Ideas

Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s day with your girlfriends, or thinking of things to do with your SO next week, I’ve got you covered! Below I’ve curated a few of my favorite outfits along with ideas I’m mulling over for this upcoming holiday ❤ ❤ ❤

At Home

dsc_1934image-1

This will probably be the most likely setting for our Valentine’s Day celebration (if you like low-key homebody activities 😉 ). Also, I am obsessed with this adorable little lounge set from AKG. First of all, it is locally made/designed, and the fabric is comfortable and so breathable! I’m not much of a lace lingerie girl, so for this occasion I wanted to find something modest, comfortable, and still feminine (and I can continue wearing this for the months to come!). Take a peek below for some date ideas, as well as links to what I’m wearing.

Home Date:

1.  Valentine’s Picnic Basket from Scanway (available February 10 – 19, 2017)

Who doesn’t love to have a romantic indoor picnic in their warm and cozy living room? You can choose between a number of options, plus they really got me when I read tenderloin, truffle, chocolate, and florentines. Pair it with your favorite bottle of wine, and you’ll be good to go. Yum.

2. Spa Night

Pamper yourselves by grabbing your favorite bath products, scented candles etc. and prepare to have a relaxing night in. See some of my favorite products below:

Blackberry Bath Bomb – Lush

Soft Coeur Massage Bar – Lush

Fresh Fig Honey Bath – Laura Mercier

Cocoa Butter Body Butter – The Body Shop

Tantra Massage Oil – Saje

3. Weekend Getaway at Atlantica Oak Island

Bring your pjs for the weekend and prepare for an ultimately relaxing getaway. Have breakfast in bed, take cooking lessons, go wine tasting, and do yoga together.

What I’m Wearing:

Chloe Bralette – AKG

Kate Brief  – AKG

*find them in-store at Makenew on 2468 Agricola St.

Casual

dsc_1924dsc_1930

Okay, this blouse totally caught my eye when I first saw it – it carries the embroidery trend feel but uses velvet flowers instead! I paired it with a denim bottom to dress it down, but added a fun sandal heel (don’t you LOVE the faux fur?! I couldn’t help myself when I saw these babies online 😉 ). Obviously if you are doing an outdoor activity, I would recommend changing up the footwear to match the weather, but these were too fun to not share! Take a peek below for some date ideas, as well as links to what I’m wearing.

Casual Date:

1. Valentine’s Food Crawl

What is more fun than reminiscing with your sweetheart while chowing down on a Valentine’s themed food crawl? There are at least 20 stops, and under $10 at each location ❤

2. The Coast’s Valentine’s Doughball

A one hour dessert & wine tasting session from 11 local vendors – need I say more?

3. Curling Tournament of Broken Hearts – Good Robot

If you’re looking for something more active with a quirky theme, grab your friends (or another couple) and get your curl on!

What I’m Wearing:

Devore Plunge Swing Top – TOPSHOP

Helena Straight Leg Jean – GRLFRND

Vamp Faux Fur Sandal – Zara (find similar ones here and here)

Dressy

dsc_1902dsc_1908dsc_1910dsc_1888dsc_1900

Here I wanted to share my take on “dressier” outfits without wearing a dress or skirt (while we’re still braving the cold winter, I’d much rather stick to pants 🙂 ). I love the play on feminine details with the wider sleeves, peek of skin, and softer tones, plus these are two outfits you can also bring into the Spring season! Take a peek below for some date ideas, as well as links to what I’m wearing.

Dressy Date:

1. Decadence – Savour Food & Wine Festival

Start your Valentine’s weekend off indulging at the Decadence event as part of the Savour Food & Wine Festival. I mean you really can’t go wrong when there’s cheese, chocolate, AND wine pairings involved.

2. Feeling the Love Dinner & Dance

A Valentine’s soiree for couples, singles, and friends – think funk, jazz, and cocktails!

What I’m Wearing:

Edie Flute Sleeve Top – TOPSHOP

Domme Pant – Club Monaco

Ivette Sandal – Jimmy Choo

Brax Jimpsuit – Wilfred

Mod Tapestry Pouch – Wilfred

THE COAST – Spring Fashion Issue

IMG_4025

In case you missed it, a few weeks ago I had a fantastic opportunity to shoot for the Spring Fashion Issue for The Coast. It was so much fun and I got to share some of my fashion philosophies and favorite trends for this season (I’ll share more below!).

You can access the digital copy issue (through PressReader) here.

The Coast is a locally owned and free newspaper that covers anything and everything Halifax, from fashion to culture and events, food, current news and more! The cover was shot by Meghan T. Whitton and makeup by Emily A. Moore – you can see more of their work on contact info via the links at the bottom of this post!

During the interview, I was able to reflect on how Lovebyelle started, and speak to working within the fashion industry in a number of roles. I also spoke about a few of my current favorite designers: AKG, Maggie MacCormick, and Sarah Sears (and I am wearing pieces from all three favorites in the photos). Here are snippets from the article below:

Her Fashion Philosophy – “Don’t be afraid to try styles that you would never think of. It’s the things you’d never think of pairing together that look the best,” says Yeung, who says that though she’s had a lifelong interest in fashion, she never pictured making a career of it. “I always say, do what you like. Your style is an expression of your personality. If I want to wear white in winter I will. I don’t go by fashion rules, I do what I want.”

Her Favorite Springs Trends – “Right now, I’m all about curating my outfits with a peek of neutral suede piece – ’70s inspired suede is back in with the A-line skirts, cropped jackets and fun boxy dresses.” says Yeung of what she’ll be pulling from her closet this season. A forever fan of monochromatic dressing, she’s also digging lightweight denim, whether it’s wide-leg pants, a pencil skirt or a kimono jacket. And for a touch of romance – the exposed shoulder top. “Try my favourite style – the off-the shoulder blouse, paired with an airy culotte.”

What I’m Wearing: The Artist Dress – AKG // The Pencil Crop – Maggie MacCormick // Criss Cross Ring, Loop Bangles, Piya Choker, Finger Tipper Ring – Sarah Sears

Spring Looks

I always love Spring and Fall (more-so Fall) because you have the option of wearing layers or having none at all. It’s also a great time to try out your separates in different combinations to refreshen your Spring looks! Here are three different types of looks I’ll be sporting this season (with the dressier, casual, and everything in-between):

unnamed (8)

A neutral drapey trench is a must have this season with it’s versatility – you can basically add it onto any outfit whether you’re heading to work, to travel, or any event. While we’re at it, I added on a nude suede skirt which is trending for Spring fashion. 70’s inspired suede pieces are back, but with an elevated feel!

What I’m Wearing: Lawson Trench Coat from Babaton at Aritzia / Nathaniel Sweater from Babaton at Aritzia / Hopper Skirt from Babaton at Aritzia / Avery Trainers from Senso / Lovesome One Sunglasses at Gentle Monster

unnamed (2)unnamedunnamed (1)

If you haven’t noticed yet, I am obsessed with SENSO footwear! Lately, I have been living in these Avery trainers because they look great and feel comfortable especially when I’m on my feet most of the day (huge win!). I also love this leather choker by local designer Sarah Sears. This was my first piece from her latest collection and I have to say I am hooked, and cannot wait to see what she has in store 🙂

What I’m Wearing: Moto Inspired Jacket by Wilfred at Aritzia (similar one here and here) / Metrocles Dress by Community at Aritzia / Low Rise Crop by J Brand / Piya Choker by Sarah Sears (find it here and here in Brass, Silver, or Oxidized Silver)

unnamed (5)unnamed (3)

I have to say wide legged pants and culottes are probably my favorite kind of bottoms – they are very comfortable, and they look fantastic! A lot of people always ask me whether they are too short for a wider leg and I always tell them it’s not necessarily their height – it’s pairing it with the right footwear and sometimes finding the right length of pant that comfortable suits them.

What I’m Wearing: Palmier Sweater by Wilfred at Aritzia / Eckhardt Pant by Babaton at Aritzia / White Loafer by Shellys London (similar one here and here) / Saxon Watch by Larsson & Jennings

elle_07elle_11elle_06

I first met Luke and Alexa when we were shooting for Aritzia’s #NowhereEverywhere Campaign in conjunction with the grand opening of the #AritziaHalifax location (see post here and here). We immediately bonded with our similar aesthetic and appreciation for fashion and beautiful photos.

If you haven’t heard yet, they just launched North By North Photography, offering photography services from portraits and events, to editorial work and social media content. They are also open to a working with you on any creative ideas you may have so if you think of something, drop them a line!

Whenever Alexa and Luke contact me to do some collaborative work, I always jump at the opportunity. Working with them is always so easy and fluid, and they take every measure to make sure you are comfortable in the environment that you are working in. When Alexa told me the shoot was going to take place at the Public Garden Greenhouses, suede was what came to mind! I thought of pairing the greenery and natural lighting with a mixture of warm tans/camels, with the suede adding on that textural element! These pieces really speak true to my minimal style with small key details – and are great staples to bring into the Fall and Spring seasons. I am absolutely in love with the result of our shoot (as usual) and the talent and passion that these two have! They will quite literally climb trees to get the perfect shot!  It was a pleasure working with Luke and Alexa – and don’t forget to visit their page featuring this exact collaboration.

Summer Lookbook Series Part 2

Denim Skirts & Baseball Caps

So this has basically been my summer uniform the last few months. I love how casual, yet put together this look is (plus who doesn’t love wearing comfortable sneakers every day?). This skirt has been one of my favorite summer pieces and will definitely be transitioning into my fall wardrobe!

What I’m Wearing: Hammer Run – Supra // HW Pencil Skirt – The Castings // Dauphine Tank – Wilfred // Decker Cap – Wilfred Free (similar one here)

Pleated Skirts & Sleeveless Sweaters

Who says you can’t wear a sweater in the hot weather? I think it’s all about finding the right styles with the right fabrics. Pairing two longer pieces together can sometimes make someone look ‘blocked’ or shorter, so look for details that can balance that out such as a side slit or contrasting pleated textile (like I have above).

What I’m Wearing: Somerly Slide – Michael by Michael Kors (similar ones here or here) // Watch – TheHorseAU // Jude Skirt – Babaton // Palmier Sweater – Wilfred

Asymmetrical Skirts & Summer Loafers

I keep going back to the black & white, and I can’t help myself; they are such classic shades that go with just about anything and everything! Here, I am sporting my current favorite watch from Larsson & Jennings to tie the whole B&W theme together with a small hint of gold. This is a great look that pairs classic ‘business’ styles with a slight twist – I love the cut of the skirt because it adds that extra detail, and the sweater crop adds texture.

What I’m Wearing: Jax Skirt – Babaton // Alrik Knit Top – Babaton // Lapera Loafer – Shellys London // Lader Watch – Larsson & Jennings // Animalier Sunglasses- Dolce & Gabbana

Minimalist Dresses

Along with my silk dress from my previous post, here is another style that’s been on rotation this summer. This was an easy go-to with it’s simplicity and slit detail (I clearly love slits ;)!) paired with a fun accessory and interesting leather sandal. Again, it’s all about tying the whole look together with accessorizing and the grooming, plus it’s another great transitional piece for fall layering!

What I’m Wearing: Auxiliary – Reese Cross Body // Jessie Dress – Babaton // Chatham Sandal – Jeffrey Campbell // Lader Watch – Larsson & Jennings

I am so excited to be a part of Aritzia’s Nowhere Everywhere campaign – it holds a special place in my heart for many different reasons.

Having only moved to Halifax less than two years ago, I am always exploring the city – one bite.. one drink.. one scene at a time. Even with the amount of stunning places I’ve been to around the world, I find that there is a certain beauty and calmness about living in the East Coast that you cannot find anywhere else. Last week, I spent the afternoon wandering around the city with the gorgeous Kayla of Short Presents, wearing some of our favorite pieces from the Spring/Summer collection. I love the effortlessness and versatility of the dress – how I can easily go from browsing a local farmer’s market to attending an evening event with the right accessorizing. Here I’ve paired the look with some fun fringe, and a sleek tailored coat – as you know, I love playing with the hard & soft/structured & fluid.

If you are living at or visiting Halifax (NS) this week, you should stop by the Halifax Shopping Centre for the grand opening of Aritzia Halifax. Join Kayla and I for a night of shopping and cocktails featuring a performance by Wintersleep from 7 – 9 pm, Thursday, June 4th.

Check out Aritzia’s instagram feed for some seriously beautiful outfit inspiration, and stay tuned to see our favorite places around the city. Don’t forget to tag your stylish adventures with #NowhereEverywhere for a chance to win a $2,500 shopping spree.

Where will your clothes take you this summer?
