Valentine’s Outfits + Date Ideas

Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s day with your girlfriends, or thinking of things to do with your SO next week, I’ve got you covered! Below I’ve curated a few of my favorite outfits along with ideas I’m mulling over for this upcoming holiday ❤ ❤ ❤

At Home

This will probably be the most likely setting for our Valentine’s Day celebration (if you like low-key homebody activities 😉 ). Also, I am obsessed with this adorable little lounge set from AKG. First of all, it is locally made/designed, and the fabric is comfortable and so breathable! I’m not much of a lace lingerie girl, so for this occasion I wanted to find something modest, comfortable, and still feminine (and I can continue wearing this for the months to come!). Take a peek below for some date ideas, as well as links to what I’m wearing.

Home Date:

1.  Valentine’s Picnic Basket from Scanway (available February 10 – 19, 2017)

Who doesn’t love to have a romantic indoor picnic in their warm and cozy living room? You can choose between a number of options, plus they really got me when I read tenderloin, truffle, chocolate, and florentines. Pair it with your favorite bottle of wine, and you’ll be good to go. Yum.

2. Spa Night

Pamper yourselves by grabbing your favorite bath products, scented candles etc. and prepare to have a relaxing night in. See some of my favorite products below:

Blackberry Bath Bomb – Lush

Soft Coeur Massage Bar – Lush

Fresh Fig Honey Bath – Laura Mercier

Cocoa Butter Body Butter – The Body Shop

Tantra Massage Oil – Saje

3. Weekend Getaway at Atlantica Oak Island

Bring your pjs for the weekend and prepare for an ultimately relaxing getaway. Have breakfast in bed, take cooking lessons, go wine tasting, and do yoga together.

What I’m Wearing:

Chloe Bralette – AKG

Kate Brief  – AKG

*find them in-store at Makenew on 2468 Agricola St.

Okay, this blouse totally caught my eye when I first saw it – it carries the embroidery trend feel but uses velvet flowers instead! I paired it with a denim bottom to dress it down, but added a fun sandal heel (don’t you LOVE the faux fur?! I couldn’t help myself when I saw these babies online 😉 ). Obviously if you are doing an outdoor activity, I would recommend changing up the footwear to match the weather, but these were too fun to not share! Take a peek below for some date ideas, as well as links to what I’m wearing.

Casual Date:

1. Valentine’s Food Crawl

What is more fun than reminiscing with your sweetheart while chowing down on a Valentine’s themed food crawl? There are at least 20 stops, and under $10 at each location ❤

2. The Coast’s Valentine’s Doughball

A one hour dessert & wine tasting session from 11 local vendors – need I say more?

3. Curling Tournament of Broken Hearts – Good Robot

If you’re looking for something more active with a quirky theme, grab your friends (or another couple) and get your curl on!

What I’m Wearing:

Devore Plunge Swing Top – TOPSHOP

Helena Straight Leg Jean – GRLFRND

Vamp Faux Fur Sandal – Zara (find similar ones here and here)

Here I wanted to share my take on “dressier” outfits without wearing a dress or skirt (while we’re still braving the cold winter, I’d much rather stick to pants 🙂 ). I love the play on feminine details with the wider sleeves, peek of skin, and softer tones, plus these are two outfits you can also bring into the Spring season! Take a peek below for some date ideas, as well as links to what I’m wearing.

Dressy Date:

1. Decadence – Savour Food & Wine Festival

Start your Valentine’s weekend off indulging at the Decadence event as part of the Savour Food & Wine Festival. I mean you really can’t go wrong when there’s cheese, chocolate, AND wine pairings involved.

2. Feeling the Love Dinner & Dance

A Valentine’s soiree for couples, singles, and friends – think funk, jazz, and cocktails!

What I’m Wearing:

Edie Flute Sleeve Top – TOPSHOP

Domme Pant – Club Monaco

Ivette Sandal – Jimmy Choo

Brax Jimpsuit – Wilfred

Mod Tapestry Pouch – Wilfred

Spring Looks

I always love Spring and Fall (more-so Fall) because you have the option of wearing layers or having none at all. It’s also a great time to try out your separates in different combinations to refreshen your Spring looks! Here are three different types of looks I’ll be sporting this season (with the dressier, casual, and everything in-between):

unnamed (8)

A neutral drapey trench is a must have this season with it’s versatility – you can basically add it onto any outfit whether you’re heading to work, to travel, or any event. While we’re at it, I added on a nude suede skirt which is trending for Spring fashion. 70’s inspired suede pieces are back, but with an elevated feel!

What I’m Wearing: Lawson Trench Coat from Babaton at Aritzia / Nathaniel Sweater from Babaton at Aritzia / Hopper Skirt from Babaton at Aritzia / Avery Trainers from Senso / Lovesome One Sunglasses at Gentle Monster

unnamed (2)unnamedunnamed (1)

If you haven’t noticed yet, I am obsessed with SENSO footwear! Lately, I have been living in these Avery trainers because they look great and feel comfortable especially when I’m on my feet most of the day (huge win!). I also love this leather choker by local designer Sarah Sears. This was my first piece from her latest collection and I have to say I am hooked, and cannot wait to see what she has in store 🙂

What I’m Wearing: Moto Inspired Jacket by Wilfred at Aritzia (similar one here and here) / Metrocles Dress by Community at Aritzia / Low Rise Crop by J Brand / Piya Choker by Sarah Sears (find it here and here in Brass, Silver, or Oxidized Silver)

unnamed (5)unnamed (3)

I have to say wide legged pants and culottes are probably my favorite kind of bottoms – they are very comfortable, and they look fantastic! A lot of people always ask me whether they are too short for a wider leg and I always tell them it’s not necessarily their height – it’s pairing it with the right footwear and sometimes finding the right length of pant that comfortable suits them.

What I’m Wearing: Palmier Sweater by Wilfred at Aritzia / Eckhardt Pant by Babaton at Aritzia / White Loafer by Shellys London (similar one here and here) / Saxon Watch by Larsson & Jennings

Summer Escape

This photo shoot has been by far, one of my favorites! For the upcoming summer weddings and engagement shoots, hopefully this post can give you some ideas!

If you’re a DIY gal like me, there are a ton of ways to make your shoots/weddings/parties more cost effective (plus it can be fun if you do a small get together for a little arts and crafts session!). I love the idea of having balloons and pretty tassels (so cute!) because they can add a fun whimsical feel to your event or shoot. I bought my own materials (tissue paper, string) from the dollar store and used this video for reference: You can find 16 inch balloons at a local party store or 36 inch balloons at some select stores (or online). And you won’t need to fill it up days before your event, just do it the morning of and you’re good to go! Instead of paying $30-60 for pre-made 36″ balloons with tassels attached, why not make your own for $10?

Anyway I’ve had this beautiful dress in my closet from Lulu’s  for over a year now, and never got a chance to wear it, so I’m happy I finally got to bring it out! I think it’s a perfect maxi for low key beach weddings and engagement shoots because of the romantic back and lace detail in the front. It’s such a simple silhouette, yet so stunning and flattering when you put it on!

Also if you didn’t notice, I am wearing this gorgeous head piece made by Nicole at Oh Dina! Millinery, and you can see that I’m a huge fan of her floral crowns via my instagram account! I had the pleasure of meeting Nicole a couple months ago, and since then I’ve been obsessing over her work! If you haven’t checked her out yet, I linked her website and etsy shop below. She also makes custom pieces geared for your special event, and I will definitely be sending in my requests for my future engagement shoot ❤

What is your favorite wedding DIY project? I would love to know!

If you haven’t noticed yet on my instagram, I got these statement Gladiator Sandals (Stuart Weitzman) recently, to add to my collection of summer shoes. This particular color was actually purchased on as I could only find black or gold on the official website, and needless to say, I am in love! Knee high gladiator sandals have been trending the last couple of years, and I’ve had this on my wishlist for the longest time! As it is essential to have your staple summer pieces for your wardrobe, it is also just as important to have your staple pairs of shoes to match. Batter Up!

J and I happened to drive past a baseball field on our way home the other day, and it turned out to be the perfect place to shoot for this particular outfit! I love sports-inspired fashion because it’s super comfortable with a unique twist on your everyday outfit. One of my favorite designers for this trend among his other amazing designs is Alexander Wang. High tech fabrics, mesh, and sporty minimalism are rocking the runways and editorials, so even with the hot weather approaching, a great couple of pieces to invest in to transition into fall would be:

1. Baseball Caps

2. Slogan Sweatshirts

3. Quilted Bomber Jacket

4. Jersey Inspired Dress

5. Statement Sneakers

What I’m Wearing: Black & White Rugby Shirt – JCrew // Minute Skort – Hello Parry // Leopard Print Sneaker – Nike // Satin Decker Baseball Cap – Wilfred Free at Aritzia

Behaviour Apparel

J and I decided to change up our usual style of shooting to match the edge and vibe of Behaviour Apparel while keeping it very me. I came across Kate W. and her clothing line through instagram one day and loved what she was doing with the brand. Behaviour Apparel hopes to embrace and create positive behaviour through the clothing and the messages that come along with it. They also collaborate with local designers and talent such as Canadian music artist, Jordon Croucher, who has recently contributed to the line including a signature crew neck (as you can tell, I love comfy sweaters and crew necks that I can dress up or down!). Here above I am wearing my favourite crew from the brand in regular and cropped fit, and I am loving how graphic it is! I’ve recently been adding to my collection of tees and graphic sweaters as it is so versatile for my many occasions whether I’m meeting friends, going shopping, or heading to the airport!

What I’m Wearing:

Superhuman Crew Neck – $42.00

Superhuman Cropped Crew Neck – $42.00

Gorilla Crop Top – $19.00

Until next time, xo

Market Love

One of my favorite places to visit on the weekend is the Halifax Seaport Farmer’s Market. It is a great place to spend a couple hours on a Saturday morning, wandering through the stalls of local vendors filled with fresh meats, produce, baked goods, ethnic foods, crafted items, and so much more! It’s also a great way to support local talent and the local farming community. I absolutely love eating my way through the market and it has a great open environment with a variety of seating and live music.

On another note, if you work at a job that requires a strict dress code, the weekend is your time to put together a great outfit with no restrictions! Coming from the healthcare industry, and having worked in the finance industry, it is interesting to find creative ways to express your style while keeping it professional (maybe I’ll post about that later!). Lately, I’ve been obsessed with all kinds of hats. I love the way a floppy wool hat or leather baseball cap can change the look of a whole outfit. Here I’m wearing a hat I purchased from American Apparel, and my favorite fur vest from 525 America. The brown/neutral shades in the vest adds a balance to my otherwise all black outfit (with a minimal splash of gold). I know black can be tiring for some people, but I love it because it will always be a classic, plus it’s hard to stain from all the food I’m eating at the market 😉

What I’m Wearing: Work handbag – Charles & Keith, lace up bootie – Everything (at littleburgundy), black laced dress – H&M, gold sheer button up – Zara, basic fur vest – 525 America, floppy wool hat – American Apparel, gold straight bar necklace – Matoto on Etsy

Back To The Basics

The perfect way to avoid all the cold winter weather is to curl up on the couch with a good show and a hot tea (if only I could hibernate indoors for a couple months!). I find wintertime is a great time to get creative and figure out ways to stay fashionable and keep warm. There are a lot of factors that can impact the outfit/shoes you choose for the day (ie. freezing rain, black ice on the sidewalks, windy weather), and the perfect way to bear with those factors, is to have a good solid winter jacket (preferably with a big hood in my opinion). I absolutely adore my winter jacket from Mackage, because it’s clean and streamline. The fur hood is big enough to look great and keep my hairstyle intact at the same time (will post pictures soon!).

On the days it isn’t super rainy or snowy, I like to change up my outerwear with a basic coat (like the one above) or a trench. This simple-cut coat allows me to easily match many outfits because of it’s natural color. I love that it adds the perfect amount of color to my shades of black, white, and grey. Another great way to keep warm is to wear thigh highs instead of the regular leggings and skinny pants. If you pair it with the right shoes, it can add an interesting element to your outfit and elongate your legs as well! I wore mine with some sheer pantyhose to stay extra toasty! I added a turban-like headband to accessorize and keep my ears warm at the same time. Feel free to experiment with your sweaters over the winter months with vests overtop, layering chiffon blouses beneath in different lengths, with large blanket scarves, double layering, or even wearing it over a romper like I did above, which helped me utilize a bit of my summer wardrobe.

If you have any religious winter fashion tips, I would love to know!

What I’m Wearing: Sweater, Jacket, Thigh Highs, and Romper (H&M), Headband (Forever21), Booties (Little Burgundy Shoes), Necklace (BCBG Max Azria), Bracelets (Tiffany’s, Banana Republic)
